CHICAGO: Just the Eats

Visited Chicago and Milwaukee for the first time during Fall Break a month ago with my mom, grandma from Hong Kong, and aunt and cousin from NY! We LOVED Chicago!! We ate very well and enjoyed all the meals on our trip. Here are photos from just the eats in Chicago!

ordered — Razor Clams with oregano, lemon & olive oil, Roasted Bone Marrow with herbs, Chicken Thigh Kebabs with fried smashed potatoes & tzatziki

Unique atmosphere and small plates to share! Our pub table had 4 parties – a man enjoying the good life drinking wine and eating alone, a couple, a group of 3 girlfriends, and us. I haven’t shared a table in a restaurant outside of China, but it was interesting because we got to meet a friendly couple who speaks many languages, travels all over the place that they have visited my small hometown Saratoga, and lives in Cabo where I have always wanted to travel to. The dishes were all very good but quite oily. I enjoyed my first tapas experience!

ordered — Fat Elvis Waffles (banana, peanut butter-butter, bacon maple syrup), Bull’s Eye French Toast (eggs, crispy chicken, sweet onion brioche, BBQ maple syrup), Hungry Goat (2 pancakes, 3 eggs, pork belly, hash browns)

I wasn’t able to score a last-minute-cancellation at Girl and the Goat, the dinner restaurant next to Little Goat. My friend had to call a month in advance to even get her 4:30 PM reservation… it is crazy busy! Stephanie Izard, the winner of the 4th season of Top Chef, is the co-owner and Executive Chef of both restaurants, so I saw raves about her food. I have been to quite some brunch places, but the unique brunch dishes at Little Goat were so yummy! My favorite was the Fat Elvis Waffles because peanut butter on waffles was surprisingly good. Next time I visit Chicago again, I hope to try Girl and the Goat.

ordered — Super Veggie Stuffed Pizza Pie (mushrooms, green peppers, onions, broccoli, black olives, artichokes, spinach with pepperoni), Giordano’s House Salad

I wasn’t that excited to try Chicago-style pizza because I am a fan of the NY-style thin-crust pizza and I don’t crave deep dish pizzas from BJ’s. We were worried about how filling it would be, so we went with the vegetarian option but got pepperoni as an extra topping. It actually tasted good, but it was superrr filling like the feeling of eating everything packed into lasagna rather than pizza. One slice is definitely enough to fill me up.

We tried two of their most popular cupcakes and enjoyed how neither were too sweet.

ordered — tomato and mozzerella salad, tomato and crab salad, Lobster Bisque, 2 lbs of fresh chilled Alaskan Red King Crab legs, Oven Roasted Florida Red Grouper, Shaw’s Dessert Sampler (mini key lime pie, mini pecan pie, mini creme brulee, mini raspberry pie)

Most amazing king crab legs EVER that we ordered a 2nd pound after finishing the 1st pound even though each pound was $66! We were ready to splurge on this meal because the king crab legs were thattt good. I also liked trying the lobster bisque for the first time.

ordered — Dark Chocolate Almonds, Honey Butter Toffee Almonds

Aunt and cousin from NY bought us these yummy nuts when they had a layover in Chicago on their way to visit CA in July. We visited the main location to bring some home as souvenirs for friends and family because they are made locally in Chicago!

ordered — Chopped Salad, Double Cut Porterhouse (48 oz), Bone-In Ribeye (22 oz), Alaskan King Crab Black Truffle Gnocchi, Sauteed Mushrooms, Steamed Spinach

Pouring rain on the drive back from Milwaukee, we almost settled on take out near our hotel, but we decided to end our trip at a good steakhouse. Next time, I would like to try Joe’s Seafood, Prime Steak, and Stone Crab, which has amazing 4½-star reviews.
